Marcona almonds, the “Queen of Almonds,” are grown in Spain. They are shorter, rounder, softer, and sweeter than regular almonds. These blanched Marcona almonds are roasted in our own ovens in Ludlow to bring out their flavour and then sprinkled with a dash of Himalayan Pink salt. Marcona almonds are highly prized for being more tender, sweet, and delicate than ordinary almonds, with a nice buttery flavour, due to their high oil and moisture content. Marcona almonds contain the same excellent health benefits as all almonds, including cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fats. They are also a rich source of protein, antioxidants, iron and calcium. Marcona almonds can be used in salads, with cheeses, alongside fruit, and in desserts. In Spain they use Marcona almonds in tapas and in treats like turron, a traditional nougat candy. The enjoyable flavour and smooth, delicate texture of these unique almonds creates a wonderful snack on their own.
